Fishtown is the hottest zip code in Philly right now

In 2018, Fishtown was voted as America’s hottest neighborhood by Forbes Magazine. The Philadelphia neighborhood has come off of a string of accolades in recent years. And rightfully so. Fishtown gets its name from its fisheries along the Delaware River. It is often described by its triangular shape, surrounded by Frankford Ave, York Street, and the Delaware River. The last two decades have seen unprecedented growth in real estate. Home values have nearly tripled since the 1930s. Most single-family houses get offers accepted in less than four weeks on average. Many sales end up in bidding wars. The average median sale price is $339,000. The thriving restaurant scene, the diverse nightlife and the many small businesses that took a chance on the revitalization of the area have all contributed to Fishtown’s success.

Fishtown has been the stomping grounds for the city’s young, creative residents. New and old locals appreciate the area’s walkability, as well as its artsy character. his neighborhood appeals especially to people who want to be near Center City without actually living in the middle of the excitement. It is a perfect balance of grassy parks and rows of shops. This is the heart of Philadelphia’s art and music scene.

You can spend the day popping into record and thrift stores, see a show at the Fillmore or Punch Line Philly, or grab something to eat at an Irish bar called Murph’s Bar which specializes in Italian food (who would have known?). Grab a latte from La Colombe or a craft beer at Johnny Brenda’s or at the beer garden at Frankford Hall. Fishtown is one of the most exciting areas in the city with hot new restaurants like Suraya, Kensington Quarters and Cadence to name a few, popping up all over!  On Frankford Avenue, you’ll find galleries and performance venues and some of the most eclectic eats in the city. When you’re looking to party, put on your dancing shoes and go have drinks at the Barbary.
