Things To Do In Philadelphia Before Spring

Winter is almost at an end. Soon, all across Philadelphia, people will start coming out in greater numbers to embrace the warm weather and experience everything the city has to offer. You don’t have to wait though! There’s still plenty of things to do now for those with the spirit to seek them out. We’ve even put together a couple of things to see and do before March 19th.

History

There are few places in America with as much history to offer as Philadelphia. For those who want to experience the birth of America, there’s always the Independence Mall, boasting sites such as the National Constitutional Center where you can learn more about the history behind our Constitution; Independence Hall where the constitution was debated and adopted; and the Liberty Bell, an enduring symbol of national pride. While the National Constitution Center and Independence hall charge for admission, all you have to do is endure a brief wait in line to see the Liberty Bell itself.

Need something to bring beauty to life? The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the finest galleries in America, featuring everything from the art of early civilizations to the modern-day. Come see the art of Marcel Duchamp as well as the Designs for Different Futures, both of which will be on display through to the end of winter. Then, why not take a trip up the Parkway to the Rodin Museum featuring the sculptures of one of Philadelphia’s most prominent adopted artists, or to the Barnes Collection to find Impressionist works to stir the soul.

Once you’re done in Old City and The Museum area, head to Second Street for First Friday on March 6th, where local galleries open to the public at no cost. Support the local arts with donations, purchases, or visit any of the other days before spring at rates posted by participating galleries.

Food, Drinks, and Entertainment

We can’t survive on art or history alone, so why not hit Philadelphia’s local Rooftop Bars. Dress warmly and prepare for great views and brews. You can go to all sorts such as The Assembly Rooftop Lounge, The City Tap House, or The Continental Mid-Town. If rooftops aren’t your thing, perhaps speakeasies are your kind of thing. The city has a growing population of them such as the Ranstead Room or the Hop Sing Laundromat. Find your way in and enjoy yourself in unique atmospheres.

When it comes to eating, Philadelphia is a foodie’s dream. Sample the many flavors at Reading Terminal Market, Chinatown, and along Girard Avenue and South Street for dozens of great bars, pubs, and restaurants to get authentic Philadelphia experiences.

Festivals and Events

There’s plenty to do in town on any given day, but before spring you can get into some great events. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Mar. 15th (why save all the festivity for just the 17th!) is a yearly tradition, so take your place along the parade route and have a great day with family and friends as the city celebrates Irish Pride. You can also take in a show! Philadelphia has two Broadway shows playing right now: Les Miserables and Rain: a Tribute to the Beatles. You can get an early taste of Spring too at the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show

Oh, and did we mention Billy Eilish is coming to town?
